Save the Voting Rights Amendment!

Weakening the Voting Rights Act could amount to a modern day literacy test for millions of American citizens. Written on behalf of the African American Ministers in Action, that’s the stand Rev. Timothy McDonald took in a letter to the House of Representatives, which overwhelming reauthorized the full Voting Rights Act.

But our work isn’t over yet. The Senate takes up reauthorization next week, and efforts by right-wing senators to stall and sabotage renewal of the expiring provisions are well under way. To that end, PFAW’s African American Religious Affairs Department is circulating a letter to America’s religious leaders to urge the Senate to follow in the House’s honorable foot steps by fully re-authorizing the Voting Rights Act.
