AAMIA Chair Speaks Out Against Justice Sunday III on Democracy Now

January 9, 2006-AAMIA Chair, Rev. Timothy McDonald, spoke out today against Justice Sunday III, an event organized by the Family Research Council and other right wing groups. "Justice Sunday III: Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land" took place on Sunday, Jan. 8, at Greater Exodus Baptist Church in Philadelphia, and was broadcast nationwide to other churches on Christian television and radio.

The broadcast featured the following right wing speakers:
Dr. James Dobson – Focus on the Family
Tony Perkins – Family Research Council
Bishop Wellington Boone – The Father’s House
Sen. Rick Santorum – (R-PA)
Dr. Jerry Falwell – Liberty University
Dr. Alveda King – King for America, Inc.

It was the third such broadcast within the past year. Last April, the first Justice Sunday was held amidst a Senate showdown over judicial filibusters. And last August, the second Justice Sunday was held on the eve of the John Roberts' confirmation hearings. In response to Justice Sunday III, AAMIA released the following church bulletin insert, conducted interviews with national media outlets and hosted local press conferences on the Alito nomination.
