A Salute To Rosa Parks

2005 rosa parks.JPGOur affiliate organization, the African American Ministers Leadership Council has issued this statement on the passing of Rosa Parks:

With the death of Rosa Parks we have lost someone whose contribution to our country will never be forgotten. Nearly fifty years ago, Rosa Parks became the face of a movement. Her refusal to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Ala. bus in 1955 launched a campaign to dismantle that city’s racist policies, and helped energize the broader civil rights movement. Where exactly would we be had she given up her seat? The world will never know. But we do know there is still work to be done. In classrooms, churches, and communities we will pass on to future generations her story. And we will keep faith with Rosa Parks’ legacy by working to achieve equality for all Americans and bring our nation closer to the ideals to which Rosa Parks dedicated her life.
